I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, in San Diego, in 2005. I have a Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. I am a dual Diplomate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. Before acupuncture school, I worked as a pharmacy technician and then a 911 operator. I fell in love with Chinese Medicine when I had treatments that prevented a surgery and gave me my health back. I began reading everything I could find to try to understand HOW it worked. It seemed so mysterious. In the summer of 1999, I decided to go to acupuncture school to pursue the mystery.
It was quite a paradigm shift moving from Western medicine ideas to Eastern. I have to admit I was a little skeptical still in my first semester. The turning point for me occurred in my first Oriental Medicine class. A classmate brought her old German Shepherd in for our teacher to give a treatment. He was a sweet old guy and limped up to the front of the room--he had hip dysplasia. Our teacher placed the needles, then began our lecture. About 20 minutes later, the dog began to get restless. The teacher announced that he was done. He pulled the needles out and the dog walked back to his owner with no limp! I was so amazed because there was no placebo effect for the dog! It made me a believer. I continually fall more in love with this medicine 17 years in.
